The Brief
A searchable library, a usable platform, and design they kept.
We built a custom WordPress site shaped around how people look for MedPAC’s work, with a filterable, ElasticSearch-powered document library that returns the right results fast. We designed and built to WCAG AA, so the site meets the standards a federal audience requires. The MedPAC team loved the new design and adapted the new styles across their print materials too. We have hosted, maintained, and supported the site on Google Cloud since launch, and we still do.
The Solution
A searchable library, a usable platform, and design they kept.
We built a custom WordPress site shaped around how people look for MedPAC’s work, with a filterable, ElasticSearch-powered document library that returns the right results fast. We designed and built to WCAG AA, so the site meets the standards a federal audience requires. The MedPAC team loved the new design and adapted the new styles across their print materials too. We have hosted, maintained, and supported the site on Google Cloud since launch, and we still do.
Design
A modern web design, flexible enough for print.
We rebuilt the look and feel from the ground up, with a typographic and modernized visual system that fits the seriousness of the work without feeling stiff. MedPAC loved the result enough to carry it into their print materials, which is the highest compliment a design can get.
Migration
Years of content migrated, and a user-friendly CMS.
We moved years of content off a legacy Sitefinity CMS into the new WordPress site, structured so it stays findable now and manageable later. We rebuilt the editing experience for the people who run the site day to day, with workflows that let staff publish updates and new reports on their own.
Search & document library
A searchable library, organized the way people look for things.
The core of the site is the document library: years of reports, chapters, comment letters, and presentations that congressional staff and researchers need to find on a deadline. We built it on ElasticSearch with categories, custom taxonomies, and filters shaped around the way people search for MedPAC’s work, so the right document surfaces in the first results.
Accessibility
Accessible to every person.
For a federal government site, accessibility is not optional. We designed and built to WCAG AA from the first wireframe. Color and contrast, focus order, keyboard navigation, and screen reader semantics were part of the build, not the cleanup. The site meets the standards the audience expects and the law requires.
Managed infrastructure
Hosted, monitored, and supported since launch.
The site runs on Google Cloud in an enterprise managed environment we operate. We handle daily backups, continuous monitoring, security protocols, and WordPress updates on a regular cadence, so MedPAC never has to think about where the site lives or who is watching it. The same team that built it still cares for it.
